Allegri is facing a possible injury crisis ahead of Juventus’ Champions
League clash against Barcelona, with two key players out and a further
three in doubt.
The Turin club may be showing excellent form thus far in the Serie A, but their real test starts on Wednesday when they resume their quest for European glory.
Their first challenge is undoubtedly the toughest they will face in the competition’s first round - a trip to Camp Nou where they will face a Barcelona side brimming with confidence following a 5 - 0 win over Catalan rivals Espanyol on Saturday.
To make matters worse, the Bianconeri coach has confirmed that he will be without the services of both Sami Khedira and Claudio Marchisio, while there is uncertainty over the availability of Alex Sandro, Giorgio Chiellini and Mario Mandzukic.
“Chiellini should start training with the squad from Sunday,” Allegri told reporters.
“Alex Sandro had a fever and we hope it has gone away. Khedira and Marchisio are definitely out. Khedira returned from international duty, where he had a knock to the knee, rested for a few days and played 30 minutes.
“The day after, he felt pain again. Basically, it will take a week or so to have him back,” the Italian added.
On the topic of Mandzukic’s injury and substitution against Chievo, Allegri was somewhat more optimistic.
“He just picked up a knock on the calf, it shouldn’t be anything serious,” he stated.
Kick off is at 20:45.
