Nyon - UEFA says it will do its utmost to avoid forcing Liverpool to play a Champions League match on the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough stadium tragedy.
Liverpool has asked UEFA to ensure it plays the second leg of the quarterfinals on April 14 and not the next night.
It was on April 15, 1989, that 96 Liverpool fans were crushed in a fenced-in standing area of the Sheffield stadium where Liverpool was playing Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semifinals.
Liverpool has never played a match since on the Hillsborough anniversary.
UEFA president Michel Platini said on Monday he is aware of the importance of the anniversary and fully sympathized with Liverpool's feelings.
The Champions League draw is on Friday.
