The Liverpool Echo reports that Brazilian forward Philippe Coutinho is backing England prodigy Raheem Sterling to be a major success in the Champions League.

“Raheem Sterling will be one of the stars of Europe,” says the Brazilian.

“He is having a very good time and is in very good shape. I believe he will do quite well in the Champions League.

“I am not surprised at all by his performances for England last week.

“We are training together every day and I know his potential. He has the potential to perform like that for Liverpool and the national team.

“I am confident this will be a very good season for Raheem for both Liverpool and England.

“Are we similar players? We are both very different players because Sterling is very fast.

"I don’t have the speed to catch him!” added Coutinho.
