Kompany pays tribute to Aguero

Cape Town - Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has paid tribute to Sergio Aguero after the striker’s hat-trick helped his side secure a dramatic 3-2 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday.

City headed into the encounter at the Etihad needing a win to keep their European Cup chances alive, and, after being brought to ground by Mehdi Benatia in the box, Aguero got them off to a strong start when he scored from the penalty spot in the 21st minute.

Goals from Xabi Alonso and Robert Lewandowski just before the break, however, put the visitors on top.

Aguero was not done though, grabbing his second on 85 minutes, before completing his hat-trick – and a remarkable comeback – in stoppage time.

"If you want to succeed at anything, you need a special player in a special form, otherwise you just don't win anything,” Football411 quotes Kompany as saying.

"He's our special player and when he's in that form he makes things achievable that otherwise wouldn't be."

Instead of basking in the glory of his own achievements, Aguero looked to focus on the importance of the result.

"I'm very happy for us, the three points are very important. It was difficult but we are happy because this game was very important. It was a game we had to win,” he said.

While Bayern remain at the top of the Group E standings with 12 points, City have climbed up to joint second, where they join Roma and CSKA Moscow on five points with one round of fixtures remaining.
