Bucs plan epic anniversary

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates are planning on celebrating their 75th anniversary by completing a clean-sweep of titles, according to assistant coach Tebogo Moloi.

The Buccaneers have already been crowned MTN8 and Telkom Knockout champions this season, and 2012 will give the Soweto giants the chance to lay their hands on the Nedbank Cup, PSL and African Champions League trophies.

Moloi, part of the Pirates class of '95 that clinched Africa's biggest club cup competition, told The Sowetan: "Next year is an important year in the history of Orlando Pirates, and we want to celebrate the 75th anniversary with a bang by sweeping the boards.

"When we closed for the festive season holidays, we told the players the honeymoon of celebrating the success in the Telkom Knockout was over. We are reopening on January 9 when we will also be meeting the players.

"We have to start channeling all our energies into the league as it is still within reach."

Pirates, treble champions least term, will also be reaching out to the community in order to forge a stronger history and firmer connection with the club's supporters, and marketing director Nkosana Khoza issued a request to the public.

"We would appreciate it if we can get our hands on (Bucs memorabilia) because it will allow us to begin filling some of the blanks of this rich history," Khoza said.

"A football club is only as strong as its connection with its history and its supporters. Kindly share with us your photos and memorabilia.

"We are particularly interested in photos and memorabilia from pre-1970s."
