Johannesburg - FIFA president Sepp Blatter's comments that racism on the football pitch
could be settled with a handshake were unfortunate, Tokyo Sexwale said on
Friday.
"Blatter is a great man, nevertheless this is very unfortunate. It should never have happened," said the human settlements minister, speaking in his capacity as a member of FIFA's anti-racism committee.
He said he called Blatter on Thursday night, and the FIFA president said he intended issuing a statement of apology on Friday.
Slurs were being made in the game, but it "breaks the knees" to hear a racial insult, Sexwale said.
"It can't be washed away with [the] swap of a jersey."
