Orlando Pirates’ veteran striker and former South African international, Benni McCarthy, has praised Wits’ young and upcoming striker, Ryan Chapman, however advised him to respect his opponents when celebrating.
McCarthy is referring to the striker's goal celebration during The Students’ recent 3-1 win in the Absa Premiership. The former Porto player said that he did not insult Chapman in anyway during last weekend’s Telkom Knockout final which Pirates won and instead advised him that he should respect Pirates’ symbol of the cross bone.
"You know Ryan (Chapman) is a very good striker. I knew him from Cape Town but I told him that you don't insult other teams when you celebrate a goal like he did against Pirates in the league.
“The cross bone sign is very important to players at Pirates so whether you are a friend or not, you will cross other people's path which is not good and that is what I told him not to do it next time. He is a good player and he should concentrate on that," the Buccaneer concluded.
