The Buccaneers were on the team bus heading back from their failed CAF Champions League encounter against Recreativo do Lobolo when they came across a family of five who had rolled their car on the way to Luanda.
The Pirates players quickly rushed from the bus to aid a mother and her two daughters who had crawled from the wreckage and lay on the side of the road.
Bucs' medical team, led by Dr Ezekiel Mathebula and physiotherapist John Williams, were able to assist the injured women, with thanks to Benni McCarthy, who has a firm grasp of Portuguese.
"This could have been worse," Dr Mathebula told the club's official website. "One of the girls injured her neck and her shoulder and arm were dislocated - I managed to help her out but she will have to go to the hospital.
"The mother was in a serious condition - she could not breathe properly and I was a bit worried with her. Unfortunately I am not in position to say how and what happened, but this was a sad accident.
"The whole family was traveling together and worse could have happened."
McCarthy revealed he was heavily shaken by the incident, given the fact he himself is a father.
"When you have a child and you see what those kids were going through, it touches you," the former Bafana Bafana striker said.
"We had to jump out of the bus and work. Pushing the car off the road and help the kids was our main priority. It was a terrible trip for us all. Firstly there was an accident at the airport in Calulo, now when we hit the road, we find something tragic - it was kind of frightening."
