Sao Paulo - The Brazilian club that recently signed American midfielder Freddy Adu have hired former South Africa coach Joel Santana.
Bahia hired Santana on Monday, three days after the club confirmed Adu as their new signing to play in the Brazilian league.
On Sunday, Bahia lost 5-1 to Vitoria in the opening match at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, a result that led to the dismissal of coach Jorginho.
The 64-year-old Santana has been without a job since leaving Flamengo in July 2012. It will be the third time he coaches Bahia, two-time Brazilian champions.
Santana coached South Africa in 2009 but was fired before the country hosted the 2010 World Cup.
The 23-year-old Adu ended his contract with Philadelphia Union last month.
