We had to look at form - Shakes

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba admits that his 23-man squad was selected on form.

Mashaba announced his squad to take on Gambia in their penultimate Group M 2017 African Cup of Nations encounter set for June 4.

The 65-year-old called upon several players who have donned senior colours with the likes of Brighton Mhlongo, Dean Furman and May Mahlangu all returning to the national setup.

Polokwane City's Thobani Mncwango along Chippa United Diamond Thopola will experience their first call-up while Mashaba named Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Teboho Langerman, Hlompho Kekana and Keagan Dolly all from the newly crowned Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

"There are many good players but we had to look at the form of the players in those positions,” Mashaba said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“We selected players on form.

“You know we added Thobani because he is doing well, scoring goals and Brighton Mhlongo has also been doing very well for Pirates and that's good for the team.”
