Tau: Time Bafana get respect

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau believes that the national team deserve more respect, following the 2-0 victory over Nigeria on Saturday.

Tau, who has become one of South Africa's most exciting attackers for club and country in recent seasons, grabbed Bafana's second goal to seal all three points for Stuart Baxter's men in Uyo.

Earlier, Tokelo Rantie's header has handed Bafana a surprise advantage although the Super Eagles were generally humbled in all departments in the encounter.

"We prepared very well. I think you guys (the media) have seen our training sessions. And with the new coach trying to get his ideas to the team," Tau told the SowetanLIVE website.

"And the boys responded on the day. We're happy that we beat Nigeria.

"We don't want to be too confident just because we beat Nigeria.

"But I do think we should also give ourselves some credit. We could have scored more goals.

"Overall we did so well. We're South Africans. It's about time we get the same respect."
