Steve Komphela can be top class for Bafana, says Vilakazi

Cape Town - Golden Arrows assistant coach Vusimuzi Vilakazi believes Steve Komphela can transform the fortunes of Bafana Bafana if he is given the opportunity.

The Bafana position lies vacant following the resignation of former incumbent Stuart Baxter, who departed after the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt where the country went out at the quarter-final stage.

Komphela's name has since been put forward as a candidate to replace Baxter, although Molefi Ntseki will serve as interim coach until the South African Football Association decide on a full-time replacement.

Vilakazi, who is Komphela's number two at Arrows, told reporters: "Steve Komphela is top class my brother.

"In all the coaches that came I know everyone has his own flows but I've never seen someone so informed about football in my life.

"He breaks it down nicely and having been a teacher helps him a lot to make things easy for everyone at Arrows, from players to coaches, we learn a lot from him.

"If he can get the job in the national team I'm sure Bafana Bafana will be something else, but I'm not firing him at Arrows [laughs]!"
