Cape Town - Former
Bafana Bafana striker Jerry Sikhosana has praised national team coach
Stuart Baxter for giving young players international exposure.
Goals from Percy Tau and Lebogang Mothiba handed Bafana Bafana a 2-0 win over their hosts in the final of the friendly Four Nations Tournament in Zambia on Saturday, but Sikhosana was more impressed with the inclusion of youngsters such as Siphesihle Ndlovu, Motjeka Madisha, Teboho Mokoena, Brandan Peterson, and Reeve Frosler.
He said all the youngsters have done well at club level and deserved a call-up as he believes they have a role to play in helping the national team qualify for the next World Cup, having missed out on this year's tournament in Russia.
He told the SABC: "Unfortunately we could not watch them play, but from what I’m told, it was a good performance from the team and I think it’s good for them going forward.
"It’s good especially with all the young boys that have been roped in just to give them international exposure.
"It’s exciting, really, these are boys that we want to see grow. They are still passionate to make a name for themselves
"I think we are definitely on the right track for Qatar with these group of young players.
We need to give them support as a nation to make sure they live-up to their potential."
