Cape Town - The South African Football Association (SAFA) Acting CEO Russell Paul has backed newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki as the "right person" not the "cheap option".

According to the official SAFA website, Ntseki addressed the media for the first time since he was appointed permanently over the weekend following a month of serving his caretaker position.

Flanked by Paul, the 50-year-old spoke about his hopes and aspirations at the helm of the South African senior men’s national team.

"I'm very happy to get the green jersey. We all know and understand what green means, it projects a very positive future, I’m very happy that I got a green one today and the future looks very green," Ntseki said in Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, Paul defended the sudden appointment and believes that the former under-17 coach has great understanding of the game.

"It's not dealing with a cheap option‚ it’s dealing with the right person. And the right person could be expensive, and he could be cheap," Paul said as quoted by the SowetanLIVE.

"It's not about money. You could argue that money does play an important role. But in this case, we were dealing with what was good for the association‚ what was good for the players and what was good for the image."

He added: "I think it’s our (SAFA) responsibility to build up that profile. Because dealing with his profile‚ he has been involved with the national team for quite a while‚ so he’s not unknown to that area.

"He has formed an integral part of the former coach Stuart Baxter’s team. And he has a great understanding of football. In terms of developing a profile moving forward‚ he needs to deal with that on the playing field‚" Paul said.

Meanwhile, for this camp, he has appointed former Bafana coach Trott Moloto as his technical advisor, while Kaizer Chiefs Multichoice Diski Challenge coach Arthur Zwane will be the assistant coach.

Ntseki’s first assignment is the away international friendly match against Zambia scheduled for Saturday, 7 September.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
