Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe has confirmed his interested in becoming the President of the South African Football Association (SAFA).

According to an IOL report, the 48-year-old wants to run for the SAFA presidency and has been thinking about additionally making a move into administration.

"Yes, I’m interested. They say you want to be affiliated somewhere in order to stand for elections. I’m currently affiliated to SAFA, since I’m serving on the technical committee,” said Radebe.

"I believe that in order for us to see improvement and progress, you need new ideas. The football is getting younger and younger. There’s more money in it. We need to evolve. There must be a shift for improvement.

"We need more people with new ideas to come in and take our football to another level."

Radebe has represented Bafana Bafana on 70 occasions and guided the national side to two Soccer World Cups in France 1998 and the 2002 showpiece (hosted in South Korea and Japan).

Now serving on the technical committee, Radebe wants to make a bid for Danny Jordaan’s position.

"Yes, I’m still in the technical committee and it also helps to see what is going on in the association. It also creates more interest in wanting to see our football progress," said Radebe.

"I’m interested in making sure that our country becomes one of the powerful nations in Africa. Let us get involved.

"Let us come together and make sure that at least we try and work together - all the professional minds.

"Surely there’s a lot of talent out there with ex-players. There must be a shift,” Radebe concluded.

Jordaan has held the top position since September 2013 after succeeding Kirsten Nematandani.

However, Jordaan has been embroiled in several headlining matters during his tenure.

The 66-year-old, who was on the Local Organising Committee for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, had his name in the mix when FIFA confirmed that bribes were made to host the prestigious event.

More recently, Jordaan faced rape allegations from singer and former parliamentarian Jennifer Ferguson.

Jordaan’s lawyer issued a statement denying the accusations made.
