Matlaba motivated by Bafana return

Thabo Matlaba is keeping fit to make sure he's ready for his Bafana Bafana comeback.

The 32-year-old Black Leopards captain hasn't represented his country for four years.

During his time with Orlando Pirates, Matlaba amassed 29 caps and was part of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations squad in Equatorial Guinea.

Having shone for Lidoda Duvha despite their troubles this season, Matlaba was recalled to the national team by current coach Molefi Ntseki.

Bafana were due to play Sao Tome and Principe last month in AFCON qualifiers - until all sporting activities were postponed as a result of the coronavirus.

Matlaba told Far Post: "Yeah I was disappointed to be honest with you but it is something that was beyond my control because this Covid-19 pandemic came as I was to make a comeback to the national team.

"The health of the nation comes first but I am still keeping fit and training very hard."

He added: "It remains my target to represent my national team until I stop playing football and I don’t think there is nothing that will stop me from doing that as long as I am consistent in my performances."
