Cape Town - Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba has reportedly accused the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) of wanting to sack him in order to give the job to close friends of the association.

South Africa secured a vital home victory over Senegal in a 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifier at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, but the win was marred when Mashaba afterwards became involved in a "regrettable incident".

The 66-year-old has since been suspended by SAFA for his actions.

According to the Sowetan Live, SAFA president Danny Jordaan and CEO Dennis Mumble led a powerful delegation to congratulate the head coach after the match.

But Mashaba refused to acknowledge the plaudits and reacted negatively, with the Bafana mentor's tirade caught on camera before his post-match interview.

SABC presenter, Kwena Moabelo, attempted to bring calm to the situation but Mashaba continued with his rant, seemingly having a go at the media and the SAFA hierarchy.

An anonymous SABC employee has revealed that the broadcasting station was unable to go live because of Mashaba's behaviour.

"It would have been bad to put him on TV when he was raging like that. He was having a go at everyone, pointing fingers at the media and SAFA in particular, saying they wanted him out so their friends can be given the (Bafana) job," an SABC employee said.

"We had to delay the interview because he was not in a state to go live on air."

Meanwhile, further reports reveal that Mashaba is set to lose his job following the incident and that it is only a matter of time before an announcement is made.

Bafana Bafana will switch their focus to an international friendly clash against Mozambique in Maputo on Tuesday and will be led by assistant coach, Owen da Gama.

Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00.
