Johannesburg - Itumeleng Khune believes that his international experience could be crucial for the national Under-23 side in the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympic Games set to commence next month.

The Kaizer Chiefs goal minder was selected alongside his club team-mate, Eric Mathoho, as the two 'over-aged' players to travel with the Amaglug-glug for a global spectacle in Brazil.

Khune, 29, said he is delighted to be part of the squad and he will utilise his experience to assist the young stars to settle in when the tournament kicks-off.

“I’m really grateful and happy because I have been recognised,” said Khune.

“I have been selected as one of the over-aged players and for me it’ll be great to participate with the rest in at the Olympic Games in Brazil.

“With my experience I think that I’ll be able to help the young boys to settle in.

“Not only myself but most of the guys as well because they have been called to play for Bafana Bafanabefore.”

“So there’ll be plenty of experience in our team as well and we’ll work together as a unit and we’ll help each other.

South Africa will open their campaign against the host nation, Brazil, on August 4.
