Kekana heaps praise on Dolly

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has praised Montpellier winger Keagan Dolly for volunteering to play for Bafana Bafana at the COSAFA Cup.

Dolly endured an injury ravaged 2018/19 and spent the majority of the second half of the season playing reserve team football for his Ligue 1 side.

As such, in a bid to improve his match fitness, he offered himself up to take part in the COSAFA Cup in order that he can reach peak physical conditioning.

It is thought that if the 26-year-old can prove his fitness in the tournament, senior national team coach Stuart Baxter will select him in his final 23-man Bafana squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.

Kekana said of his former Sundowns team-mate: "It's very important because Keagan can help Bafana Bafana at AFCON.

"So when I look at Keagan for going to COSAFA, not many players can do that. You can see that he loves the game and he understands why he is playing football, so I'd give him credit for what he has done.

"More than anything he cares about us and he cares about the team. It will help him to get match fitness and be sharp the way we need him to be. If he plays so many minutes at COSAFA, he stands a big of doing well at AFCON."

David Notoane's youthful squad are set to face Botswana in a quarter-final clash at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
