Juventus defender commits to Bafana Bafana

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter has confirmed that Italy-based defender Joel Untersee has committed to representing South Africa at international level.

The 24-year-old Juventus right-back, who is currently on loan at Serie B side Empoli has been a long-term target since Baxter took over the national team reigns for a second time in May 2017.

According to KickOff, Untersee qualifies for Bafana Bafana through birth as he was born in Roodepoort, Johannesburg before relocating to Switzerland. He went on to represent the junior Swiss teams up to Under-21 level.

Having joined the youth ranks of Juventus in 2010 Untersee has yet to make a first-team appearance after being called up by then head coach Antonio Conte and has spent various loan spells in Serie B.

Baxter who failed to clinch qualification for this year's 2018 Soccer World Cup confirmed on Tuesday that the player had committed to play for Bafana Bafana.
