Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho has backed new Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter to give the youth a chance.
SuperSport United coach Baxter is set to take charge of the national team at the end of the current domestic window.
With the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifying games scheduled from June onwards, Baxter will be looking to usher in a successful new era for Bafana Bafana.
According to Gordinho, who was given his debut by Baxter at Kaizer Chiefs in 2014, the newly-appointed national head coach is likely to be comfortable with placing his faith in rising young stars and might shake things up a bit in terms of selection.
"It's good for the country to have him (Baxter). He has done a lot with us and SuperSport," he told the Sowetan LIVE.
After an outstanding season in central defence for the Glamour Boys, Gordinho is also hoping to see his own name in future national team squads.
"He understands what he wants as a coach and he understands South African players. He is a coach that picks players based on performance, so if I do well I think he will have a look at me."
Gordinho, 23, went on to give examples of some young players the coach has entrusted in the past.
"Of course he looks at youngsters. He's got a vision for the football he wants and he knows without younger players, there's no future for that vision.
"He obviously has to balance between giving the youth a chance and getting results."
