Benni has no clue why SAFA stalling on new coach

Johannesburg - Five months since the sacking of Shakes Mashaba the South African Football Association are yet to appoint a new Bafana Bafana head coach.

Much to the concern of former South African striker Benni McCarthy, who forms part of the committee that has been assisting SAFA in appointing a new national coach.

However, up to this stage there is still no sign of a new face at the helm with Soccer World Cup qualifiers taking place early next month.

The Cape Town born goal poacher said he is unaware of the stumbling block hindering SAFA to appoint Mashaba's successor though the country’s football governing body vowed to announce a new coach late in February.

McCarthy, 39, however has backed the SAFA President, Danny Jordaan, and his NEC members by stating that their patience would pay-off.

"I simply don’t know what’s happening," said South Africa’s all-time leading goal scorer.

"I don’t know what’s stalling the procedure to appoint the coach because they (SAFA) have short listed pretty good candidates for the job.

"By now, I was expecting that we’ll be having a new head coach but obviously the President, Danny Jordaan and the NEC knows exactly what they are doing.

"Maybe there’s a hold up somewhere which I don’t have a knowledge of."
