Banyana v Reggae Girlz clash ends in draw

Cape Town - Banyana Banyana and Jamaica have played to an entertaining 1-1 draw in a friendly match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

South Africa led at 1-0 at half-time after a goal from Linda Motlhalo in the 20th minute after she dispossessed a Jamaican defender and blasted home.

Khadija Shaw equalised for the visitors in the 59th minute after a brilliant run and a composed finished.

South Africa had a chance to regain the lead after a Jamaican handball but Leandra Smeda could only rattle the crossbar with her penalty effort.

Smeda thought she had made amends in the 86th minute when she put the ball into the back of the net but she was ruled offside and the goal was disallowed.

South Africa now take their place at the FIFA Women's World Cup where they open their account against Spain on June 8.
