Bafana win plate final in COSAFA Cup

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana won the COSAFA Cup Plate title after defeating a brave Malawi on penalties 5-4 after extra time (0-0) in the game on Friday.

Bafana made multiple changes as Reeve Frosler, Athenkosi Dladla, Grant Margeman, Tercious Malepe, Liam Jordan and Kamohelo Mahlatsi came back in to the team.

Malawi struck first as Gerald Phiri Junior struck a free-kick on target in the 13th minute but Mondli Mpoto made a good save.

A change had to happen in the 35th minute as Katlego Mohamme filled in for Keanu Cupido, who came off after a rough challenge.

Just before the 40th minute mark, Kamohelo Abel Mahlatsi hit the woodwork with a header.

Just before the break, Grant Margeman went close yet Brighton Munthali made the stop in goal.

In injury time, Gabadinho Mhango was denied by Mpoto in goal with a point-blank save. Soon after, Phiri Junior hit the woodwork.

Bafana had a great chance as Mahlatsi struck wide whereas Jordaan went close soon after near the end.

After two misses apiece in extra time, the shoot-out went to sudden death where Charles Petro struck the underside of the bar to see Bafana over the line after Teboho Mokoena's successful penalty and settle the score 5-4.
