Bafana coach keeps national team door open for Rantie

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki says every South African player can be selected for the national team if they perform well for their respective club's, even Tokelo Rantie.

Rantie, who recently signed a deal to play for Mamelodi Sundowns, is rumoured to not be on good terms with the South African Football Association (SAFA).

The news is not surprising as the forward failed to report for a national team camp while playing overseas in 2016.

Rantie then snubbed another call-up in 2017 under head coach Stuart Baxter.

The striker has gone two years without playing competitive football but Sundowns has given the player a career lifeline and Ntseki says if he performs well then he is open to welcoming Rantie back into the national team fold.

Ntseki told KickOff: "I think everybody, every South African player if he does well for his club deserves an opportunity to be selected for Bafana Bafana.

"But in saying that, some of them left Bafana Bafana or they were not selected because of other reasons that are outside the game of football.

"So if ever those challenges that led to the player not being selected can be addressed... because I do feel that if ever there are challenges, every player needs help.

"If it's a social issue we have to get the professional help that is needed for that player because we can't keep on throwing away everybody because of social challenges that a player might be exposed to.

Because as a country if you look at our background, we all need professional help so that we can understand how we conduct ourselves in the profession that we are in.

"So, it is not only about Rantie in terms of the challenges that he had to go through, anything that we feel he needs help with, and he deserves (another chance) to be in the national team. We'll give a player that opportunity."
