Cape Town - SuperSport United goalkeeper coach and former Bafana Bafana star Andre Arendse has backed Ronwen Williams to be a success with the national team.
Both Itumeleng Khune and Darren Keet are ruled out with illness and injury for Bafana's two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde in September, and coach Stuart Baxter has opted for Williams, Wayne Sandilands and Reyaad Pieterse in their place.
The 50-year-old, who went to the 2002 World Cup with South Africa, told the Sowetan he had belief in all three keepers, although he had great confidence in Williams' abilities.
Arendse told the publication: "But you know the nature of the game in South Africa, we've never had a massive problem in terms of quality goalkeepers.
"Ronwen has had a bit of an unlucky time when he has played for the national team, but if he gets an opportunity he will put that right on the big stage. Now I work with Ronwen on a daily basis and I know his qualities, his capabilities and I know what he can produce."
