The 28-year-old missed out on three previous call ups to the Bafana Bafana camp and was the surprise name when coach Baxter announced his squad last week.

On Saturday, South Africa welcome Nigeria to the FNB Stadium for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match and Serero is delighted to be back with the national team ahead of the crucial fixture.

“It feels good. I’m back in the country‚ seeing the guys‚ everybody in the squad – it feels good‚” he said, as quoted by SowetanLIVE website.

Plying his trade in Europe, the Vitesse Arnhem midfielder was probed into answering whether Baxter had anything to do with him returning to the national camp.

“Ja‚ there was just a normal conversation‚” he said. "It was just a normal‚ simple conversation‚ and we understood each other.

“Just a simple conversation‚ and I’m here – that’s the most important thing.

“I think you can ask him what he said to me‚ but the most important thing is that I’m here. And I’m happy to be part of the team.”

After four rounds of (of six) matches played, the Super Eagles lead Group E with 9 points, one ahead of South Africa, who have accumulated 8 points from two wins and two draws.

Libya are in third place with 4 points, followed by the Seychelles on 1 point.
