Zimbabwe association in turmoil?

Cape Town - The South Africa under-23 national football team may have a walk-over in their Olympic qualifier against their Zimbabwe counterparts.

Reports coming out of Harare indicate that the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) are in financial turmoil, which could prevent the team from taking further part in the Olympic qualifiers.

Sport24 source said that the team was stranded in Swaziland after the preliminary round second leg encounter against Swaziland, up to the point that the local Football Association had to help out.

"The Zimbabwe Football Association is having financial problems," the source said.

“They struggled to camp for the AFCON qualifying game against Malawi, and they want to save all the money for the senior team rather than the Under 23 national team.

“ZIFA are going through tough times, and they are trying to cut costs by not sending the junior teams to their tournaments, starting with the under-23 game against South Africa. It's a very bad situation.”

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
