'Sox' shocked by Bafana call

Johannesburg - Tlou Segolela couldn't contain his excitement upon being told he was included in the Bafana Bafana squad on Thursday.

The pacey winger, who has been in sublime form this year for Orlando Pirates, heard of his call-up to face Kenya in a friendly next week from the club's official website.

"Are you serious my outhi? I am very excited and I am even lost for words," he said after being told the news.

"Indeed, it has been a good a good season for me thus far but honestly I didn't think I would get a Bafana Bafana call-up so soon. It's every player's dream to play for his senior national team so I am honoured to be selected.

"I would like to thank national team head coach Pitso Mosimane and his team of selectors for the opportunity. I will give my best for my country if I get a chance to play."

It was feared that 'Sox' would be unable to turn out for Pirates this weekend, let alone play for Bafana after picking up a groin strain at half time during the 2-0 win over Vasco da Gama.

However, scans revealed the injury was just a minor niggle and cleared Segolela to turn out against Mpumalanga Black Aces and for the national team.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
