Shakes names Bafana squad

Cape Town - Shakes Mashaba has named his first Bafana Bafana squad since the death of captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

The national team coach was faced with the extremely difficult prospect of calling up a goalkeeper to fill the void left by his former number one Senzo Meyiwa.

Mashaba opted to select two new faces in  the goalkeeping department with Siyabonga Mpontshane (Platinum Stars), Brilliant Khuzwayo (Kaizer Chiefs) called up to fight Darren Keet for the right to take the gloves against Sudan on November 15.

In defence,  Luvolwethu Mpeta (Platinum Stars), Ntsikelelo Nyauza (Orlando Pirates) are two new faces in the squad while May Mahlangu (IFK Göteborg) and Lehlohonolo Majoro (Orlando Pirates) earned recalls to the national team for the first time under Shakes Mashaba.

Bafana Bafana host Sudan at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday, November 15 (15:00 kick-off).

The match will be played in honour of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa who passed away on Sunday, October 26 after he was shot.

A win against Sudan will guarantee Bafana Bafana a place at AFCON 2015. South Africa won the first leg in Sudan 3-0.
