Shabba in line for SAFA gong

Johannesburg - Siphiwe Tshabalala is in line to be named SAFA Footballer of the Year at the third edition of the award ceremony on Friday.

The Kaizer Chiefs left winger is up against Steven Pienaar and Bongani Khumalo for the night's most coveted accolade and should walk away with the honours after scoring the opening goal of the 2010 World Cup.

That strike will no doubt go down as the moment of the year for millions of South Africans and coupled with several excellent performances for Bafana Bafana ahead of the tournament, 'Shabba' is the overwhelming favourite.

SAFA CEO Leslie Sedibe said: "The awards present an opportunity for the association to recognise excellence in various disciplines of the beautiful game.

"The SAFA Awards are also viewed as a culmination and celebration of the many achievements and grand contributions made by individuals and institutions across the broad spectrum of our society.

"The 2010 SAFA Awards are very special because they happen just a few months after our country and Continent had successfully hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
