Cape Town - Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero's future at Ajax Amsterdam is in jeopardy after he was left out of the club's first-leg Champions League third qualifying round tie at Rapid Vienna on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old's position in the first team squad is in doubt after the South African missed a large part of the Dutch club's pre-season preparations.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf hint that Greek club, PAOK Saloniki, are waiting in the wings to sign the creative midfielder should Ajax coach Frank De Boer allow Serero to leave this summer.
De Telegraaf report that De Boer has too many midfielders on his books and Serero could be moved on to ease the club's wage bill.
Serero has reportedly told his agent to wait on further offers after the player caught the eye of AC Milan last season. In March 2015, Serero was linked with a R65 million move to Serie A heavyweights, AC Milan, but a deal ultimately failed to materialise.
Serero's current deal with Ajax Amsterdam expires in 2017, having arrived at the club from Ajax Cape Town in 2011 for a fee in the region of €2.5 million.
