According to the football411.com website, Serero was in doubt for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations later this month after having been side-lined at Ajax Amsterdam for most of the season with an groin injury.
But for Igesund, even a Serero lacking full match fitness is a must for the Bafana side.
"Thulani Serero, he's a very special player," said the Bafana mentor, "he's the Lionel Messi of South African football.
"He has that ability to go past players, he's young. He has completely healed from his injury, it's only his match fitness.
"He's got no problems with his hamstring at all. He came through 90 minutes in two games for the Ajax Amsterdam reserves.
"At the moment I would say he is at about 60, 65 percent. I had to make a decision with him, and I know I have made the right decision.
"Each training session he is looking better and better. Come the 19th, I'm sure he will be ready to go the 90 minutes. If not, I will use him for maybe 60 minutes, or bring him on as a sub."
