Cape Town - Following the death of Bafana Bafana skipper and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, there is still a question mark over his potential replacement.
The City Press are reporting that Moeneeb Josephs has been backed to fill Meyiwa's void.
Former Bafana keepers Andre Arendse and Brian Baloyi have favoured the Wits shotstopper to be named in Shakes Mashaba's squad for their upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Sudan and Nigeria.
With Kaizer Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune still sidelined with an ankle injury, it has left Mashaba with little or no alternative but to have Josephs in mind for their clash with Sudan on 15 November.
Baloyi feels that 'Slimkat' will fit right back into the role as the country's number one goalkeeper based on his vast experience.
"For me there is no automatic choice as we are back to that era when there was no automatic number two to Khune," said Baloyi.
"But having to think of it, we need someone with nerves of steel to get us over this last hurdle.
"I think Moeneeb can take us there based on his experience compared with the others."
Meanwhile, Arendse believes that there isn't a crisis within the goalkeeping ranks and that it gives Mashaba the chance to give Darren Keet an opportunity to stake his claim to take over from Meyiwa.
Bafana have yet to concede a goal in their AFCON qualifying campaign thanks largely to Meyiwa's performances, with Arendse going onto concede that whoever replaces him will have very big gloves to fill.
