Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, Wayne Sandilands, will be handed the captain’s armband when Bafana Bafana go into battle in this year’s COSAFA Cup.
The 29-year-old shot-stopper was called up to Gordon Igesund’s original squad for the tournament, although Bloemfontein Celtic defender, Thabo Nthethe, was named as skipper.
Now, after Nthethe and a whole host of other players were withdrawn from the squad, Igesund was forced to call-up nine more players for the competition, going on to name Sandilands as his man with the armband.

The news signals that the Sundowns man will be starting between the posts for Bafana in Zambia, although it remains to be seen which 10 players will be playing in front of him.
Sandilands has struggled to break into Bafana’s first team in recent times, due to the fine form of Itumeleng Khune, however he will be hoping to use this opportunity to impress Igesund and his technical team.
