SAFA's 'top secret' is out

Johannesburg - SAFA have confirmed the appointment of Steve Komphela as assistant to Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane.

SAFA’s head of Technical Committee, Fanyana Sibanyoni, confirmed Komphela’s appointment. He said that they are happy to bring the well traveled coach on board and explained that he will be involved with Mosimane on a part-time basis, as he will continue his position at the helm of Stars.

Sibanyoni added that this would not change assistant coach Ceasar Leal’s position within the Bafana setup.

"I think its no longer a rumour or secret that Steve Komphela is the assistant coach. He has been there for the national team before and knows the team very well. We are happy that Komphela agreed to help the national team so that we achieve our goals to reach the 2014 World Cup and also do very well in the next year's Afcon here at home.

“We also want to thank Free State Stars for allowing him to come and work with the national team. We wish him all the best in his new role as the assistant national team coach," Sibanyoni expressed.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
