SAFA want Bafana for free

Johannesburg - SAFA are hell-bent on getting a new name for Bafana Bafana unless the owners of the trademark compromise on the price, which they argue is exorbitant, according to a report on the Sowetan

SAFA and businessman Wayne Smidt, whose company, Stanton Woodrush, owns the Bafana Bafana trademark rights, are to hold a follow-up meeting to find common ground on this thorny issue.

The company said it presented a proposal to SAFA's task team of Danny Jordaan, Kirsten Nematandani and Alpha Mchunu in Nasrec last week.

Jordaan and company could not be reached for comment, but a source at SAFA, who asked not to be named, said: "We are not prepared to pay R33 million to get the name back.

"We are not prepared to pay a cent to get the name back. The guy has already made millions out of the Bafana Bafana brand."
