SAFA, Chiefs reach agreement

Cape Town - The South African Football Association (SAFA) has reached an agreement with Kaizer Chiefs on the release of the club's players to participate in the 2014 African Nations Championship tournament.

SAFA president, Danny Jordaan, said there would be no sanction against any team as no rule had been violated.

The Association on Friday held constructive discussions with Chiefs regarding the release of players. The parties agreed that Chiefs would make the players available as discussed between the coaches of the national team and Chiefs.

Players would join the national team over the next 24 hours to ensure that Bafana Bafana has a full strength squad by Sunday, January 5.

"We are extremely grateful to Kaizer Chiefs for their continued patriotism in support of the national team," said the SAFA president in a statement.

Chiefs' chairperson Kaizer Motaung is a founding member of SAFA, a long-standing National Executive Member of the Association, a stalwart in the development of football and an ardent supporter of Bafana Bafana who regularly attends the matches of the team.

"We have no doubt that with the inclusion of Kaizer Chiefs players in the national squad, the team will be significantly strengthened for the CHAN tournament," said Jordaan.
