New Bafana coach next week

Johannesburg - The South African Football Association (SAFA) will announce the new Bafana Bafana coach at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Saturday July 26, SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble said on Tuesday.

"The position of the Senior Men's National team needs to be ratified by the SAFA NEC; therefore, the long-awaited announcement of the new Bafana Bafana coach will be made immediately after the NEC meeting next Saturday," Mumble said in a statement.

Outgoing coach Gordon Igesund's was informed last month that his contract would not be renewed after it expires at the end of August.

Former Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz, who took Iran to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, was reported to be a hot favourite for the job.

However, reports on Tuesday suggested Queiroz had extended his contract with the Iranian team.

Other names bandied about were Nigeria's coach Stephen Keshi and current South African under-20 and under-23 coach Shakes Mashaba.
