My first job is to listen - Tovey

Cape Town - Neil Tovey was appointed as SAFA’s technical director over the weekend and he believes that his first order of business is to listen to people on the ground and gather information about the country’s football structures.

The AFCON-winning captain spoke to Sport24 about the road that lies ahead.

“It’s a huge challenge, but one that we have to try and get right,” he said.

“I think I need to gather as much information as I can on the structures that are in place, coaching structures, and try and improve them from there.

Tovey said that he would listen to the opinion of experts as well as take the time to speak to people on the ground in order to draw up an idea on the way forward.

“I will go listen to people and see what’s happening and where people are unhappy.

“You are not always going to get the correct information but I will prioritise the areas that need urgent attention and then take it from there.”
