Cape Town - Bafana Bafana midfielder Lerato Chabangu says sports minister Fikile Mbalula is the "loser" following his scathing attack on the team.
Mbalula lashed out at Bafana after they were knocked in the group stages of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) earlier this month.
"What I saw there was not a problem of coaching, it was a bunch of losers, who don't have any respect for this country and don't have any respect for anybody," Mbalula was quoted as saying.
Chabangu, in an interview with the Kick-Off website, hit back at the minister.
He said Mbalula's comments were "very bad" and that it had affected their families.
“He is old enough not to call his son like that, so he is also ‘a bunch of a loser’ because he cannot say that to us. He is a loser too and must call himself that too.”
Chabangu also gave his backing to coach Gordon Igesund and said he should stay on in the job. He said there had been an improvement since Igesund took over.
