Cape Town - South Africa's Minister of Sports and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula, and SAFA president Danny Jordaan met with FIFA to gain more clarity regarding the investigation of match-fixing allegations against Bafana Bafana.

Mbalula and Jordaan held discussions with the chairperson of FIFA’s investigatory committee for ethics in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday.

SAFA wanted an update on the long overdue FIFA report on possible match fixing that took place during Bafana Bafana’s matches leading up to the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa.

Mbalula stated the urgent need to bring the investigation to a close. The minister was informed by FIFA that the matter was viewed in a serious light and the delays in finalising the investigation were "regrettable".

FIFA has appointed a new chairperson for its investigatory committee for ethics, who is committed to accelerating the investigation and presenting the outcomes of the investigation at the next meeting.

"I am pleased with the reception and the seriousness with which FIFA is dealing with the matter. I am cautiously optimistic of the June deadline that has been set for the finalisation of the investigation, however the spirit, tempo and tenor of the meeting is encouraging and I sincerely believe we will soon bring closure to this debacle,” Mbalula said in media statement.
