Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has explained his decision to select the in-form Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola in his squad to face Mauritania next week.
Bafana take on Mauritania in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers away from home on Saturday, September 5.
Mashaba said he has been monitoring the Buccaneers midfielder for quite some time and he believes that he deserves to don the country’s jersey after showing an impressive performance in the recent CAF Confederation Cup outing.
“Ofcourse I have been monitoring Mpho Makola for quite a long time,” insisted Mashaba.
“If you look at his statistics, he has been playing in the CAF games and doing so well for Orlando Pirates.
“And I think it’s worth giving him a deserving chance to represent his country.
“We should take light when we play and fight tooth and nail to get all the three points against Mauritania.”
The Groblersdal born attacker will be looking to transfer his rich vein of form to the national team after being on the score sheet three times in the past two games for Pirates.
