Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has offered a chance for May Mahlangu to work with both the squad and the national team’s medical staff at the upcoming African Nations Championship in January as he continues his rehabilitation from injury.
According to the supersport.com website, Mahlangu is recovering at his home in Secunda from a bad Achilles tendon injury and working his way slowly back to full fitness.
His physio has commended his progress and it is expected the Bafana midfielder will be ready by the end of this month and then work on match fitness in January before going back to Europe.
Mahlangu ruptured the tendon in training in July just when the 24-year-old was beginning to establish himself in a Bafana jersey.
The club confirmed that he will miss the rest of the 2013 season, likely having now played his final game for them as well with his contract set to expire in December.
His Swedish club Helsingborg had predicted a very long recovery time to help regain strength and elasticity and allowed Mahlangu to go home for rehabilitation.
In the meantime his contract at Helsingborg is at an end and in recent weeks the Swedish press has been full of speculation about a possible move to champions Malmo.
