Johannesburg - The Supersport United duo of Bennet Chenene and Innocent Mdledle have been withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to face Nigeria and Burkina Faso due to hamstring injuries.
The players missed their club’s MTN 8 clash against Orlando Pirates on Sunday. Amazulu defender Marc van Heerden has been called up as replacement for Mdledle at left back, while there will be no one coming in the place of Chenene as Bafana coach Gordon Igesund believes he has enough cover in the department. Van Heerden will join the squad in Durban on Monday.
South Africa face the Super Eagles, the reigning African champions, in the Nelson Mandela Challenge in Durban on August 14, followed by the Burkinabe in the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day clash at FNB Stadium on August 17.
