Igesund plans for 2018 SWC

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund says they need to start introducing new players to the national set-up, as they plan for the future.

According to the Soccer-Laduma website, Igesund on Thursday announced Bafana Bafana’s travelling squad that will compete in the 2013 Cosafa Senior Challenge, to be hosted by Zambia.

The tournament in Zambia starts on July 6, with South Africa being handed a bye in the first round. Bafana's first match is on July 13, in Lusaka, where they will face the winners of Group A.

He said that the squad he has selected is a group of focused players, who could possibly play in the 2018 FIFA Soccer World Cup.

“I am happy that we have a programme that will help us to identify young players for the future who can play in 2018 and hence the selection in this team has those mixtures of players who will help us go forward and be on the samesame level with the rest of the world.

“We have to keep on building and developing and stick to our identity,” Igesund, a four time PSL winning coach, concluded.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
