Igesund names Bafana squad

Johannesburg - Gordon Igesund has announced his 25-man Bafana Bafana squad ahead of next month’s international friendly with Lesotho and the crucial World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Ethiopia.

According to the Soccer-Laduma website, there are some shock call-ups in Igesund’s side this time around, with the likes of Siboniso Gaxa and Bevan Fransman returning to the set up, as well as Moroka Swallows in-form striker Katlego Mashego.

However, the two biggest shocks of this current squad is the addition of Orlando Pirates winger, Tlou Segolela, and Mamelodi Sundowns striker, Richard Henyekane, two players that have only played a handful of league games for their respective clubs this season.

Having played a pivotal role in Kaizer Chiefs’ championship winning campaign, Tefu Mashamaite has been rewarded with a call-up to the travelling squad.

Meanwhile, players such as Siyanda Xulu, Thabo Matlaba, Morgan Gould, Siyabonga Sangweni and Dino Ndlovu miss out through injury, with Daylon Claasen and Lerato Chabangu having also been left out.

Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, Thulani Serero, is once again missing from the set-up, despite returning from injury and featuring for his club in the Eredivisie recently.

Bafana have a busy June schedule on their hands which will see them travel to Lesotho on June 1, Cameroon to play the CAR on the 7th and then Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on the 16th.

Igesund knows that results in these two qualifiers will prove to be crucial in the nation’s attempts to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
