Igesund happy with Afcon draw

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund says he is pleased with the draw for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers, after South Africa were drawn in group A, alongside defending champions Nigeria.

The draw was conducted at the Confederation of African Football (Caf) headquarters in Cairo on Sunday, with Sudan joining South Africa and Nigeria.

South Africa's group A will be completed by the winners of a preliminary tie involving Congo Brazzaville, Namibia, Libya and Rwanda.

"It is a fair draw and I think we should be one of the two countries [from our group] that qualify to the finals in Morocco," Igesund said reacting to the draw.

"I was not expecting an easy draw because all countries are competitive but I am very hopeful of qualifying for Morocco 2015.

"The past two years of my tenure have been the most difficult but now I do have a core of around 30 players on which to choose from and Bafana Bafana should be one of the countries going to Morocco."

The 30th edition of the Afcon spectacle will be played from January 17 through to February 8, 2015.

The final draw for Morocco 2015 will be held in Rabat, Morocco, on November 26, after the completion of the qualifying rounds, which take place between September and November, with two qualification games to be played per month.

Afcon qualifiers, schedule: September 5-6, September 10, October 10-11, October 15, November 14-15, November 19.
