Gould slams Bafana critics

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana defender Morgan Gould has hit out at critics who claim the team's lengthy winless streak is down to a lack of commitment.

Gould, who recently swapped SuperSport United for Kaizer Chiefs, is currently at a training camp with his national team-mates ahead of Friday's friendly encounter against Gabon.

Bafana head into this weekend's tie on the back of successive 1-1 draws, against Ethiopia and Botswana, in their two opening 2014 Soccer World Cup qualifiers.

Those results mean the national team have not won any of their last eight encounters, a run that stretches back to last year August, but Gould insists that streak is not a representation of a lack of desire to win games.

"I think people get an idea that we are not giving 100% because we haven't been getting the results, but we always give 200%," Gould told Football411 from their Nelspruit training ground.

"We are not winning matches at the moment, but it is not impossible to turn this around. I'm confident Bafana will get back to winning ways and in my view we are still in with a big chance in the World Cup qualifiers.

"We are not giving up and all the players know that it is far from over."

Bafana will take on the Panthers at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday evening, and Gould believes the encounter should prove a good challenge for the squad.

"Gabon are ranked 49th and we are ranked 68th in the world, so you can tell that we are going to face a strong side. I really think this is a good challenge for us," he concluded.
