Gaxa ready for Egypt clash

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana defender Siboniso Gaxa believes the friendly against Baroka FC over the weekend has helped the squad to gel.

South Africa thrashed the minnows 5-0 in preparation for the trip to Cairo to face Egypt in an African Cup of Nations qualifier this weekend.

Gaxa believes the friendly was a helpful exercise as head coach Pitso Mosimane fine tunes his squad ahead of the important fixture in north Africa.

"It was a good exercise which helped all of us especially those who haven't been playing in a while since the end of the league season," Gaxa told SAFA's website.

"It was also crucial for the coach to see what progress has been made since the beginning of the week and what still needs to be done.

"We wanted to fine-tune ourselves ahead of the all-important clash against Egypt next weekend and we are all aware it's going to be a difficult one.

"They are under pressure to do well and have everything to lose so we must create chances and take them."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
